Biography
Born in Osaka. He studied at the Third Higher School and the English Literature Department of Tokyo Imperial University. He founded the coterie magazine "Aozora" (Blue Sky). Major short stories include "Lemon" (Remon), "In the Town with a Castle" (Shiro no Aru Machi nite), and "Winter Days" (Fuyu no Hi). He died young of tuberculosis at 31. His distilled prose poetry-like style profoundly influenced postwar Japanese literature.
