Biography
Born in Handa, Aichi Prefecture, as Niimi Shōhachi. Graduated from the English Department of Tokyo School of Foreign Languages. As a disciple of Suzuki Miekichi, he contributed fairy tales to "Akai Tori". His masterpieces include "Gon the Fox" (Gon Gitsune), "Buying Mittens" (Tebukuro o Kai ni), "Grandfather's Lamp" (Ojīsan no Ranpu), and "The Village of Flowering Trees and Thieves" (Hana no Ki Mura to Nusubitotachi). He died young of tuberculosis at 29.
