Yumeno Kyūsaku

夢野久作 日本語版へ

Biography

Born in Fukuoka as Sugiyama Yasumichi. Dropped out of Keio University and worked as a reporter for the Kyushu Nippō newspaper. He used numerous pen names including Kaiwaka Ranpei and Kōgudo Mitori. Major works include "Bottled Hell" (Bindzume no Jigoku), the avant-garde detective novel "Dogra Magra" (Dogura Magura, 1935), "Girls' Hell" (Shōjo Jigoku), and "Doctor Inugami" (Inugami Hakase). His surrealist and psychologically labyrinthine style places him among the most distinctive voices of prewar Japanese fiction.
